Calcio in Costume (Football in medieval costumes) – For over 600 years, in the month of June, the beautiful scenery of Piazza Santa Croce, turns into a sandy battle field in 4 historical districts of Florence. The prize is a calf. Calcio in Costume recalls rugby and American football, with the difference that practically there are no rules: fists, punches and kicks are allowed when taking possession of the ball and invading the opponents area.
Palio di Siena – 60 km from Florence, on the 2 July and 16 August the most famous palio in Italy, is a horse race held twice each year on July 2 and August 16 in Siena, in which the horse and rider represent one of the seventeen Contrade, or city wards. A magnificent pageant precedes the race, attracting visitors and spectators from around the world.
